ELIGIBILITY
-
Open to everyone aged 16 and above.

Both amateur and professional designers are welcome to participate.

Participants can enter as individuals or as a team (maximum of 3 members).
2. SUBMISSION SPECIFICATIONS
a. Design rationale
Designs must reflect Singapore’s heritage, multicultural identity, and future aspirations. The design must incorporate Singapore motifs, or patterns, with modern adaptations allowed. We seek to capture the DNA of Singaporeanness so that Singaporeans can feel an affinity to the designs and want to wear them.
The design may be hand-drawn, digitally created, or a combination of both to reflect the technique of batik design.
b. Submission instructions

Designs must be accompanied by an explanation of design rationale and conceptualisations (in English) along with the completed entry form.

All submissions must be uploaded in PDF or JPEG, at least 300 dpi resolution
-
Designs should fit within a canvas size of 100 cm x 120 cm.

No copyrighted materials.

Naming of files
Kindly name your submission in PDF format strictly as follows:
SGBatik_Name of Participant (as per NRIC / Passport)
(Use underscore and not space)
For example,
SGBatik_ANGBengChoo

Maximum file size: 1 GB

Multiple submissions
If you have more than 1 submission, please differentiate your submissions as follows:

Only original and non-published works will be considered.

Participants should retain a hard copy or high-resolution soft copy of their original designs as it may be required at the later stages of the competition.

All entry forms and designs should be submitted by 30 June 2025, 2359 SGT.

The judging criteria are as follows:

Creativity and originality (30%)
-
Relevance to Singapore’s identity (30%)
-
Incorporation and innovation of batik elements (20%)
-
Versatility of the design (20%)
-
Design can be used for womenswear, menswear, various occasions, accessories etc.

The organiser reserves the right to exhibit selected designs for exhibition and remove designs or contents that the organiser considers to be unlawful, offensive, threatening, libellous, defamatory, obscene or otherwise objectionable or violates any party's intellectual property or any of propriety terms and policy Designers of the selected designs must agree to the use of the designs in clothing or other items in order to promote the Singapore Batik concepts. Designers will be acknowledged for their designs at all times.

A panel of judges will determine the winning designs.

5 winning designs will be selected for production. Each winning designer will receive. Top designs will be featured in an exhibition and may influence the final concept.

Results will be announced on 15 July 2025 on www.sgbatik.org
All winners will be notified via their respective emails and contact numbers they have provided in the participation form. No liability will be accepted by the organiser for any loss or delay in delivery of any of (nor any part of) the prizes.
If only a winner's e-mail address and/or phone number is known to the organiser, such winner will be notified by what means given. If the winner fails to come forward within 3 days of notification, the entitlement to such prize may be forfeited.
3. TERMS & CONDITIONS

Each participant may submit more than one entry for the Competition.

Participants under the age of 18 must have the permission of their parent or legal guardian and must also provide their parent’s or legal guardian’s emails in this consent form. The organiser may contact the parent or legal guardian of a participant who is under the age of 18. The committee may request the parent or legal guardian to complete and sign a consent form confirming their consent to allow the participant to participate in the Competition. If a request is made and the parent or legal guardian refuses or fails to return the consent form by the Competition entry deadline, the participant’s entry will be disqualified and withdrawn from the Competition.

All design(s) submitted for the Competition must be original designs of the participant and must not have been published before. Participants should ensure that the designs contain no libellous or unlawful material or instructions that may cause harm or injury and do not infringe upon or violate any copyright, trademark, trade secret or other right or the privacy of others.

Each participant agrees that the organiser is the owner of the copyright subsisting in the design and any subsequent modification of that design uploaded on the website or submitted by him or her for the Competition (the “Design(s)”). Upon the committee’s request, each participant shall assign any and all rights, title and interest that the participant may have in and to the Design(s) and shall execute any instrument required by the committee to affect the said assignment to the organiser.

Participants confirm and agree that he or she shall not object to the organiser using his or her Design(s) for printing and product line development. The organiser reserves the right to edit, disclose or publish the Design(s) for promotional purposes. Participants further agree not to disclose or publish their submitted designs without the prior written consent of the organiser.

If for any reason the organiser is deemed not the owner of the copyright subsisting in the Design(s), the participant who created that Design shall grant to the organiser a worldwide, exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable license to make, have made, use, reproduce, distribute, sub-license and modify that said Design.

The participants agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless the organiser and its affiliated companies and their respective officers, directors, employees, agents, successors and assigns (collectively referred to as “The Organiser”) harmless from and against any and all losses, liabilities, damages, expenses, claims, proceedings, judgments, settlements, penalties and costs that the organiser may incur or may be obligated to pay arising by reason of or in connection with or from the use of his or her Design(s).

All submitted materials, including design files, will NOT be returned to the participants.

The organiser will assume no liability for any loss or damage incurred in the process of handling the entries.

The organiser’s Management decision is final.
